What a penny buys #StorageGeek

My most recent tech panel (CTRL-ALT-TECH on the first day of SXSWi ) was on the topic "All Things Storage".  As part of that panel I brought along a little slice of storage history: an Apple ProFile from one of my two Apple III systems -- the computer that launched me into programming all those years ago.

Near the end of the live interactive session I brought out the ProFile and declared it a "box of storage firsts"...

Way, way back -- back when I was a grade school kid with plenty of free time, my father brought home an Apple III computer.  Although I'd previously tinkered with a loaned Sinclair ZX80, the Apple was the first computer that was ours (er, mine!)  My father's company had moved to using Apple III and Lisa systems and, always the forward-thinker, he was determined to have the same capabilities at home.  Though unintended, that decision determined my own life's direction...

Great turnout for Austin SNUG "SAN 101"

Austin SNUG enjoyed a nice turnout for the annual "SAN 101" lunch presentation on March 31 at Chez Zee. This is always a popular presentation and this year we managed to land a date that avoided both Spring break week and SXSW Interactive. David Morales from Compellent presented and did an excellent job of keeping the presentation material "vendor neutral" as SNUG requires...
